About GLEN WILLIAM SHORT

On December 10, 2022, Glen William Short, much loved and respected father, grandfather, family member, friend and community volunteer suddenly passed away at age seventy-four (74).
Glen was born on February 2, 1948 and lived proudly in Winnipeg's north end.
Glen is survived by his two children,Jay (Jennifer) and Jolene (Kevin); grandchildren Noah, Nate, Isabel, Nolan and Eva; brother Wes (Sheila); sister-in-law Helen as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. Glen also continued a close relationship with his separated spouse Sylvia and her siblings.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents, William and Eva Hazel Short and his brother Earl.
Glen is remembered as a sports enthusiast who could recall the finest details of his playing, coaching, officiating, parenting, volunteer ice-making and spectating career. His recollections involved humour and with repetition the stories always improved.
In most recent years his focus turned to loving and supporting his grandchildren in whatever they were doing and making sure the furry members of the family were well exercised and loved. This included a special relationship with family dogs Sammie, Maggie and Hazel.
His motto was always to work to live and not to live to work. He provided for his family through a long career working midnights at Canada Post's downtown headquarters where he became known as a hardworking and principled mail sorter whose opinions were often asked.
Glen's love of all types of music was a constant throughout his life. As a child he would secretly open and listen to wrapped albums before Christmas and rewrap them and act surprised, he was an amateur DJ supplying music for work and community functions, and he would make mixed playlists to share with family, coworkers and friends.
Glen has been cremated. The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life in warmer weather in the spring of 2023.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your local chapter of Kidsport.
Glen believed in fairness and opportunity for anyone in all walks of life and Kidsport provides financial support to those otherwise unable to participate in sport because of financial barriers.
