About | Glen Albert Pancoe (aka "Gido" or "Hawk") spilled his last cup of coffee, ate his last bite of steak and left for his last meeting in the early hours of October 6, 2021, despite not being a morning person. Born on January 30, 1945, he grew up in Elmwood with brothers, Dale and Doug (deceased 1997); and sister Karen. He met Denise Trottier, the love of his life on a blind date (thank you Linda Ward). This straight-laced, Catholic, 'Pride of the Prairies' gal must have had a penchant for some 'yiddica yip' (see Elmwood football team's battle song) in her life because she stuck around. They married on February 7, 1970, and went on to have four children, David (Kristin), Chris (Jennie), Colette (Ryan) and Michael (Leah). Glen worked 28 years as a police officer for the City of Winnipeg and the house was never short on City of Winnipeg stationery. Glen put on a happy face, but the trauma of police work and his upbringing took their toll. He struggled with alcoholism, which strained his family life and career. We all join Glen in thanking AA for 38 years of contented sobriety "facing life on life's terms". As Glen wrote, "Thank you to the 639 group, 1st Step group, and Tigers group. Our family would never have achieved our good lifestyle years without your support". His mantra was, "One day at a time". Glen adored his grandchildren, Anjali, Greta, Lucie, Hazel and Henry, and took great joy in making them laugh through his signature 'throaty' tickle and amateur magic tricks. He was a 'people person' and loved making everyone laugh at his post-retirement jobs at Natural Habitat and at Seine River Retirement Home. Hawk, you left us much too soon, and we will miss you. The family is grateful to the staff of the palliative ward in St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to CancerCare Foundation. Virtual service will be held on Friday, October 15 at 2:00 p.m. Link will be live only after 1:30 p.m., https://afterword.com/stories/ glen-albert-pancoe.
