About GORDON GEORGE LONGBOTTOM FEBRUARY 13, 1948 - JULY 3, 2004 Gord will be sadly missed by his wife, friend and soul mate Susan, sons; Greg and Alec, father George Longbottom (Scottie), sister Tina (Ron), brother Allan (Irene) and numerous nieces and nephews. Gord passed away peacefully, with his wife at his side on July 3 after a brief illness. Gord was raised in Winnipeg, with his fondest childhood memories being spending time with his beloved grandparents in Scanterbury, MB. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in October 1968, and was posted to BMH Iserlohn, West Germany in the fall of 1969, where he met his wife Susan in the spring of 1970. They were married in December of that year and returned to Canada in March 1971. They have two sons, Greg and Alec, along with their two dogs were moved from coast to coast during Gords 21 years in the military. He traveled almost all over the world including three UN tours: Egypt, Golan Heights and Cypress. Gord was posted to Suffield in 1985-1986 at which time they opened their Pizza Take-out. He was then posted to Calgary in September of 1986, until July 1989. Upon his retirement in December 1989, they settled in Suffield, where along with running Cactus, he took on the mammoth task of building Susans dream home. Gord handed the reigns of Cactus over to son Greg in December, 1999. Gord joined the Corp. of Commissionaires in September, 2001, where he worked until his illness in March, 2004. Gord loved music and one of his greatest joys was making CDs for his friends and family from his extensive music library. Gord was predeceased by: Auntie Margie, Uncle Jim, Nephew Rick, Mother Win, Infant Son George and his paternal grandparents. He will be sadly missed and always lovingly remembered. Service to be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 8 at the Saamis Funeral Home. Donations in Gords memory can be made to the Redcliff R.C.M.P. Victim Service Unit, P.O. BOX 9, Redcliff TOJ 2NO.
