About | ELIZABETH (BETTY) PELLAERS (nee SNIATKOWSKI) February 20, 1947 – April 23, 2022 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth (Betty) Pellaers, peacefully after illness, with family by her side. Betty is predeceased by her parents, Dmytro (Mike) and Alexina (Ina) Sniatkowski and husband Peter Pellaers. She is survived by sons, Robert (Susan) and Jason (Stacey); brother Ted (Elaine); her partner Bob; grandchildren, Amelia, Justin, James and Megan; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many other relatives and dear friends. Betty was born in Dundee, Scotland. When she was eight, her family immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. Betty attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School and Sisler High School, then nursing school at Victoria General Hospital, where she made many life-long friends. Betty and Peter were married on August 3, 1968. They had their sons, Robert and Jason in North Kildonan, then built a home in East St. Paul. Betty stayed home while her sons were small and then started at Mount Carmel Clinic, where she worked as a triage nurse until retiring. Betty and Peter dreamed of retiring to Victoria, BC, but Peter passed away in 2004. Betty made it to Victoria, retiring there in 2008. She loved life on the Island and also loved to travel, enjoying Hawaii and Europe with Bob, as well as visiting Manitoba and Vancouver to see her grandchildren. Betty was a loving Granny. In recent years, Betty enjoyed visiting with friends and family, volunteering, reading, shopping and enjoying some good chocolate and a cup of hot tea. As per Betty's wishes, she has been laid to rest next to Peter at First Memorial Gardens in Victoria, BC. A memorial service was held in Victoria in May and a Celebration of Life will be held on June 18, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. If so inclined, donations may be made in Betty's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. As published in Winnipeg Free Press on Jun 11, 2022 |
