About | FREDERICK A. POST Suddenly and peacefully at home, Fred Post, beloved husband of Heather, passed away on June 18, 2011 at the age of 68. Fred was born in Winnipeg on November 13, 1942. He attended Sir Sam Steele, Lord Nelson, Mynarski, Sisler High School and Teacher's College. Fred's teaching career began in 1963 at Norwood School; a one-room school at Petersfield where he taught for two years. He moved on to Brant School in Argyle, where he was principal and full-time teacher for 20 years. He taught briefly at Woodlands school; then became a permanent supply teacher. His last two years before retirement were at Stonewall Centennial. Fred would have unique projects for his students; he would relate his own life experiences to add interest to the curriculum. Fred expected and got the best out of his students. Fred was a natural teacher who loved his profession, and in his 34 years of teaching gained much respect from his students as well as their parents. His students considered him a friend. Fred worked at Adesa Winnipeg from 2002 until his death. He enjoyed delivering vehicles as well as working security. Fred and I met in 1958 at a youth group at Robertson Memorial United Church. Our first date was a dance at H.M.C.S. Chippewa, where he was a sea cadet. We were married at Robertson Church in December of 1966. I joined him in Argyle where he was teaching. We were kindred spirits, sharing nearly 45 years of marriage, we managed to weather the storms of life. We shared much laughter because of Fred's great sense of humor. Fred had been a member of Stonewall Kinsmen, Lions Club and Legion. He did Citizen's Patrol and also was chairman of the Justice Committee. He and Ron Watson started the Community Christmas Card. He organized a walk-a-thon to raise money for a new skating shelter. He was a kind and caring man who often volunteered his time coaching various sport teams. Fred enjoyed playing various sports in his younger days. He loved to fish with his brother Gary and his son Tyler. He and I spent many summers camping and enjoying the outdoors. Left to mourn Fred is his wife Heather; his little four-legged buddy Tubby (our cat); sisters Sarah (Roy), Joan (Joe), Shirley (Henry); brothers Gerald (Val), Gary (Ella), Larry (Kelley), Orville (Margaret); sisters-in-law Joyce (Vince), Candice, Cathy (John); brother-in-law Tim (Karen) and their families. Lifelong friends Angus and Gordon Coulter, John Morris and friends in Argyle. He was predeceased by his parents Hazel in 1966 and Archie in 1978. Cremation has taken place. A service of celebration of my beloved Fred's life will be at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 433 Main St., Stonewall on Monday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. For those so desiring, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 0K6. Rest in peace my dearest Fred. All my love always. - Heather MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements. As published in Winnipeg Free Press on Jun 25, 2011 |
