About | ROBERT FRANK HOLOWKA Peacefully, with his family at his side, Robert passed away on November 4, 2015 at Percy Moore Hospital. Robert will be remembered and so sorely missed by his wife and best friend, Annette, his children, Tonya and Rob, David and Amber and Mark and Tara, and his precious grandchildren, Isabella, Charlie, Emily, Andrew and Emmett. Also, remembering him will be his beloved sister, Sylvia Eggerer, her children and grandchildren, Devon and Jim Sawby, Jonna and Andy McQuade, Carter, Davis, Isla and Alfie. Robert was predeceased his parents, John and Mary Holowka, his in-laws, Ted and Ella Petter, and his brother-in-law, Edwin Eggerer. Robert was born in Winnipeg on October 1, 1943 but spent his childhood in Fisher Branch. His love of the outdoors and the land was a love that endured until the end. On Thursday, November 3 just prior to being admitted to the hospital, he and his son Mark, went hunting on the Fish Road - a road full of ruts and mud holes. In typical Bob fashion, he "directed" the driving in hopes of straddling the ruts and avoiding getting stuck. His school days at Fisher Branch, Sisler High School and the University of Winnipeg, training at Depot in Regina and six years with the R.C.M.P. in Burnaby only strengthened his desire to return to the Interlake and return he did! Robert spent these years farming, working for Manitoba Conservation and just before the onset of his illnesses, he worked for NICE. For the past 15 years, Robert dealt with many health issues. However, through these challenging years, he stayed very positive and was always able to find humour in any situation. He loved to make people laugh. Until January of this year, he and Annette were known for their road trips around the country. "Let's go for coffee" was a familiar comment and once even landed them up, unannounced, in Calgary. Bob also loved to read, to discuss politics, to solve the Free Press daily puzzles and even at the end, could fix or show someone how to fix a weed eater or the TV. Robert will be missed by many. Go. Run with the wind in a place of no pain. A funeral service will be Tuesday, November 10 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fisher Branch Community Centre. If friends and family so wish donations in memory of Robert may be made to: Palliative Care Unit, Percy Moore Hospital, Hodgson, MB or CancerCare Manitoba, 1160 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
