About | TERESA ELIZABETH HABILUK (nee SLIVINSKI) January 29, 1951 - November 27, 2021 With great sadness, we announce the passing of Teresa, our loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, who passed away peacefully after a short illness, with family by her side. Teresa will be deeply missed by her two loving children, son Jesse and daughter Sari (Kalyna Morrow-Litke). She will also be lovingly remembered by her father Frank Slivinski; sisters, Marguerite (Don) Grela, Pat (Neil) Sheppard, and Jacqueline (James) Chevis; brothers, Ken (Liz Peterson) Slivinski, and Mark (Angie) Slivinski; brother-in-law Ed Nizio; sisters-in-law, Judy (Brad) Allum and Carole Rickey; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Teresa was predeceased by son Corey Habiluk, mother Florence Slivinski, and sister Cathy Nizio. Teresa grew up in Winnipeg and graduated from Sisler High School. In 1975, she married Patrick Habiluk and together they started a family. They moved to Haines Junction, Yukon in 1983 with their sons, Corey and Jesse, and spent many happy months up north until Corey became ill and they returned to Winnipeg. Corey's death in 1985 devastated the family, and Teresa cherished his memory throughout her life. After a period of healing, daughter Sari was born in 1990. Sadly, a few years later, Teresa and Patrick separated. In order to be a stay-at-home mom, Teresa lovingly provided day care to many children. Once Sari was school-aged, Teresa worked at Christ the King school and later Glenlawn Collegiate. Ill-health led to early retirement. Teresa was a devoted sister, who enjoyed regular coffee dates and "girls' weekends" with her sisters at Spruce Sands. She treasured the epic journey they made together in 2014 to visit the Chevis family in Australia. Teresa was also a wonderful friend and confidant who cared deeply for and treasured her lifelong friendships. She fondly remembered her trips to Arizona and Mexico. Her family would not have been complete without the cuddles and companionship of her two Shih Tzus, Alfalfa and Darla. Teresa also had a creative side and loved to decorate and create beautiful things. Many have been blessed by gifts of her cross-stitching and other hand-made crafts. Special thanks to the Palliative Care team and staff at Riverview Health Centre who provided Mum with incredible care and compassion during her final days. As per Teresa's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will be held, with interment to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Riverview Health Centre. Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, so loved, so missed, so very dear. MAKE A DONATION TO CancerCare Manitoba Foundation As published in Winnipeg Free Press on Dec 04, 2021 |
