About | RODNEY KEBICZ BORN: OCT 12, 1954 DATE OF PASSING: JUL 31, 2021 Peacefully, with his wife by his side, Rod passed from this life on July 31, 2021, at the age of 66. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, children, Karli (Re), Peter (Krista), Niki (Steve), Tracey, grandchildren, Eboshiogwe, Okhai, Omoepe, Izekhume, Eire, Lennon and Logan; sisters, Sandy and Patti, stepdad Tom and stepmom Noreen. Rod was born to Shirley and Mitch Kebicz on October 12, 1954, with a congenital heart condition called tetralogy of fallot, or blue baby syndrome. He was a member of the first generation to survive this condition beyond early childhood. When Rod was three, Dr. Gordon Cumming performed Rod's first of many surgeries, and became his lifelong doctor and friend. He attended Sisler High School, and went on to earn his RN, BN, MN, as well as his CAE. Rod held a variety of positions over his career, but never strayed far from his passion for training the next generation of nurses. His students appreciated his dedication and high standards, and Rod became a friend and mentor to many of them. People naturally gravitated to Rod. He had a big smile and a bigger heart. He was eternally optimistic, loved to have fun, and lived his life to the fullest, regardless of his health challenges. He had great compassion for the North End neighbourhood he grew up in, and volunteered for many years at Lighthouse Mission. Rod also was deeply involved in his church, heading up the EMRT team for many years, as well as helping out wherever and whenever he could. He loved and adored all his kids and grandkids, and was there for them in every way he knew how. His lifelong interests included golfing, fishing, live theatre, and travel. A celebration of Rod's life will take place on August 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Rock, 1397 Buffalo Place. Much gratitude goes to Dr. Beaudry and the Palliative Care team at St. Boniface Hospital, who supported the family and made Rod's final days so peaceful. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rod's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lighthouse Mission, or the Nurses Christian Fellowship of Canada.
