About MICHAEL LEONARD SKREMETKA November 5, 1948 - August 13, 2000 After a lengthy but courageous and patient battle with cancer, the love of Jesus around him, his family and friends by his side, early Sunday afternoon, August 13, 2000, our greatly cherished and dearly beloved son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and devoted friend Michael, peacefully but joyfully entered into the Home of his Father in Heaven. Michael will be lovingly remembered but greatly and sadly missed by his mother Stella Skremetka of Winnipeg; his sister Irene and brother-in-law Deacon Paul Humniski of Toronto; his aunt Nadia and uncle Michael Negrich, his aunt Jenny Grace and aunt Nelda Gmiterek all of Winnipeg; his nieces and nephews, Anne-Marie, Johnathan, Stephen, Christina and little great-nephew Collin Jordan Blake Humniski and his mother Candace Blake of Toronto; many cousins all across Canada, as well as his dear and cherished friends, associates and companions throughout the past and recent years. A graduate of Sisler High School, Michael obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Winnipeg in 1969, a Bachelor of Law Letters Degree from the University of Manitoba in 1972 and was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1973. Michael is predeceased by his father Meron and his paternal grandparents Michael and Tatiana Skremetka, his maternal grandparents Leon and Mary Kopchynski; his aunt and uncle Luba and Casey Waroway and his uncle Walter Grace and uncle George Gmiterek, all of Winnipeg. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Dr. Marr and his staff at Riverview Health Care Centre for their caring and loving support, especially nurse Curly, Rev. Dr. A Baran and Rev. Fr. Michael Winn for their pastoral care and constant prayers and support; to all Michaels supportive and loving friends, especially Michelle Juba who helped to carry us through Michaels final days with her constant love, support and companionship. In accordance with Michaels wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial celebration of Michaels life will be held on Thursday, August 17, at 2:30 p.m. in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, Man., R3C 2B7, or to a charity of your own choice.
