About | STEVEN "ICE" OROBKO Surrounded by his family and loved ones, and with his dignity, grace and pride intact, Steven "Ice" Orobko passed away due to cancer on December 11, 2001 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital. Steven was pre-deceased by our mother, Jean Orobko, on December 17, 1996. Left behind to share his memory and to be forever touched by his spirit is Stevens life companion Dawn Manson. Steven is survived by our father Walter Orobko; brothers, Anthony and Andrew; sister Kimberley; sisters-in-law, Caroline and Kathy; and brother-in-law Brian. Surviving Steven as well are his nieces, Tamra and Melissa; and nephews, Ryan, Adam and "Brycester". We would also like to make special mention of Stevens honorary brothers, Brian Paisley and Joe Inacio. Mere words will never capture the life, times and spirit that was our Steven. He was, quite simply, an original. Steven came into our lives on July 30, 1962. He was born and raised in the North End and this is where he and Dawn came to reside when they started their life together. Steven was always fiercely proud of his North End roots and his Ukrainian heritage and as the years came and went, forged countless friendships and relationships with those who also call the North End home. Stevens early years were strongly shaped by the friends, teachers, and coaches of Margaret Scott School, Isaac Newton Junior High School and Sisler High School, and Steve excelled as a member of the North Winnipeg Nomads and Sisler Spartans football teams. His exploits as a "Spartan" have assumed an almost legendary status and the feats he accomplished at the 12-15-2001 As published in Winnipeg Free Press on Dec 15, 2001 |
