About | GERALD PETER BRUCE THIESSEN June 6, 1950 - December 12, 2010 Peacefully after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, Gerry slipped out of this life and went to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Survived by wife of 35 years, Marian; mother Kay Thiessen; sister Pat (Neil); brothers, Randy and Jim; nephews and nieces, Corey, Garrett, Morgan, Cole, Alexi, Carly and their families; parents-in-law, Henry and Tina Rempel; brother-in law Ron; and nephew Kevin; also very special adopted family, Jenny (Steve) with grandsons, James, Jonathan, Logan and Nicolas of Lorette, MB, Herbert (Nicki) with granddaughters, Racheal and Malaika; and grandson Elijah of Salt Lake City, UT, Solomon of San Jose, CA, Esther of Los Angelos, CA and Daniel with granddaughter Arielle; also little brother Cory. He was predeceased by his father Peter Thiessen. Gerry grew up in Winnipeg and attended Sisler High School. He was employed with All-Fab Building Components for many years before he made a mid-life change to become a Certified Financial Planner, a profession in which he found much satisfaction because he was able to help people on a very personal level. He was able to touch a multitude of lives in many different ways. He had a creative spirit and approached life with an unbridled sense of optimism putting his whole heart into any commitment that he accepted. His deep friendships were clearly demonstrated by the outpouring of love and support in his battle with cancer. The family would like to extend special thanks to all those who helped in so many ways especially Kathy, Bonnie, John and Tammy, Bruce and Marianne, Willy and Anni, Tina and Pastor Lorne and Jennifer. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at The Church at Pine Ridge. Visitation on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with devotional at 7:15 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main St. Private interment prior to the service.
