About LUBOMYR (LOU) MANASTERSKY May 28, 1946 - February 28, 2015 With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Lou Manastersky at the age of 68 years. Lou was predeceased by his parents Paul and Paraska Manastersky, his younger brother Roman Manastersky, his uncle and aunt John and Luba Manastersky. Left to mourn the loss of Lou are his beloved wife of 40 years, Marilyn, his parents-in-law Josie and Emil Sohor, his brother-in-law Emil Sohor (Sandi), his cousins Mary Konowalchuk, Irene Skinkoway, Peter Manastersky (Halia), sister-in-law Evelyn Piush as well as many nieces nephews, and friends. Lou was born in Germany. The family left Germany after the war and lived in France for a number of years until in 1952 they immigrated to Canada, and settled in Winnipeg. Lou attended Immaculate Heart of Mary and then Sisler High School. Lou was involved in stage productions at school and also played football. After high school he worked for a few years and then returned to school at the University of Manitoba where he completed his degree in Political Sciences and Economics. Lou met his beloved wife Marilyn in 1967. While dating they both finished their degrees and were married on June 22, 1974. Lou was employed as a Research Assistant in Prince Albert, SK for the Department of Northern Affairs until he was promoted to Research Analyst for the Saskatchewan Government Services Department in Regina. In 1985 Lou and Marilyn moved back home to Winnipeg. Lou worked at a number of jobs and ended his work career at Westfair Foods. He retired early due to ill health. Lou was a kind and gentle soul with an understated sense of humor. If any of his friends or family needed help he would do his best to assist them. If you were a friend of his you knew you had his loyalty. Ask any of his friends or members of the West St. Paul's Lions Club, where he worked at many fundraising functions for the club. Lou enjoyed following sports especially football and hockey. He also loved fishing and camping and working on his computer. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at Saints Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church, 115 MacGregor Ave. on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M.
