About	SHARON RUTH LABINE "I lived the life I wanted" Peacefully, on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, Sharon Ruth LaBine passed into the presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Sharon was born November 17, 1948 in Red Lake, Ontario, the only child of Dorothy and Kenneth Sopinick (Sopiwnyk). The family moved to Winnipeg in 1949 and settled at 780 Cathedral Ave. Sharon attended Faraday, Isaac Newton and Sisler High School. She was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and was baptised in Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, receiving her First Holy Communion in St. Nicholas Church on McGregor Ave. She was very proud of being a "north-end girl." In 1966 Sharon entered a three year diploma nursing program, graduating in 1969. She married Joseph LaBine and they moved to Thunder Bay where they started a family. This was the start of what she believed was her most important role in life, that of wife and mother. As a young mom she watched over many of her children's sports and activities, delighting in their accomplishments. In 1982 she and Joe moved back to Winnipeg. In 1987 Sharon returned to her nursing career working in the long term care setting. Her most fulfilling position was the 12 years she spent at Holy Family Home where she felt she was encouraged to expand her professional horizons and creativity. In 1999 after a spiritual pilgrimage to Greece, Turkey, Israel and Rome accompanying her Aunt Pat, Sharon enrolled in the nursing program at the University of Manitoba. She received her Bachelor of Nursing degree in 2006. In 2002, Sharon became part of the Palliative Care Program as a home care nurse, working in her beloved "North End" where she helped many people on the final journey of their lives. She enjoyed this position until her illness became too burdensome to continue. She said it was the best job of her whole nursing career and she was proud to be associated with the Palliative program and its members. Sharon enjoyed the simple pleasures of life- full moons, working in her garden, long walks and cycle rides with her husband. She loved the smell of wood smoke on her plaid camp jacket, and roasting marshmallows and smores with her grandson Leo. She enjoyed the game of golf and a rousing game of shuffleboard with her friends in Florida. Of course, her greatest joy was when she and Joe spent time with their grandchildren. Left to mourn Sharon's passing are her husband Joseph; son Brian and wife Natasha and grandchildren Leo and Annika LaBine; daughter, Lori, her husband Daniel and granddaughter, Beatrix Watts; daughter Lisa, her husband Mike and granddaughter Isabelle Semus; Aunt Pat Jones; Joseph's brothers and sister; nieces and nephews and their families and cousins, Mary Turko, Brian Burmachuk and daughter Dana, Robert Burmachuk, their children and grandchildren, and a host of friends and colleagues. She was predeceased by her parents, Kenneth (2004) and Dorothy (2008); cousins, Beverlee (2004), Kara (2012), Pauline (2015), and her much loved sister-in-law, Suzan (2010). Sharon wishes to acknowledge the many people who prayed for her, especially the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, and those who sent her positive thoughts through the Universe and generally helped her and her family during the course of her illness. Your kindness will not be forgotten. Sharon would also like to acknowledge the love and support of her children and spouses during her illness. No mother could ever wish for anything more. Thank you, I love you so much! To my husband, Joseph, thank you for being my partner all these years on this amazing journey. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 11 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. with Fr. T. Kowch officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
