About STANLEY PAUL WISEMAN With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Stanley Paul Wiseman, 68, loving husband, devoted father and proud Papa. After a nine year battle with cancer Stan passed away at St. Boniface Hospital the morning of June 6, 2014. Left to cherish his life, are his wife of 45 years, Carol (nee Skiba), daughter Tracy Kieper, son-in-law Richard, daughter Shelly, son Grant, daughter-in-law Kylene and the lights of his life his grandchildren Matthew, Alexander and Ethne. Also left to celebrate his memory are his sister Carol Smith, in-laws Martin Skiba (Lynne), Lena Polychuk (John), Liz Taraschuk (Bob), his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and life long friends Joyce Wolfe, Pat Cassie and family. Stan was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Sally Wiseman, his father and mother in-law Joseph and Nellie Skiba, and his brother-in-law Richard Smith. Stan was born and raised in the North End of Winnipeg and attended Sisler High School where he was an avid hockey and football player. Stan had a passion for vehicles, boats and snowmobiles landing his first job at Chorney's Garage. Stan met Carol at Crabby Steve's in Teulon, Manitoba and knew that she was the girl he was going to marry. Stan and Carol were married in the fall of 1968 and three years later started their family. After Tracy and Shelly were born they moved to Transcona and Grant joined their family. Stan was an active member of Pirates Community Club. He coached his kids in ringette, hockey, football and soccer as well as being a regular volunteer and organizer at the club. Stan thoroughly enjoyed maintaining the ice with many good friends. The occasional shot of whiskey would help keep them warm on those cold winter nights. When Stan was not at the club he could be found snowmobiling with the Springfield Trailblazers; many good friends enjoying trail rides, poker derbies and cook-outs using Carol's homemade relish. Stan's other passion was spending time with friends and family in the Whiteshell at Red Rock Lake, White Lake and West Hawk Lake. On any given summer weekend Stan could be found on the beach or in the boat pulling his kids, their friends, nieces, nephews or anyone who wanted to go on the tubes or for a ski. No matter how cold the water was at West Hawk Stan would be the first one in for a swim. He loved sitting by the campfire telling stories and enjoying a beverage or two. All were welcome by the fire. He loved having his family and friends out at the lake. Stan loved his family and supported them unconditionally. This continued right through to his grandchildren. He would be at every possible hockey game proudly standing in the corner watching his grandsons play. He was their lucky charm. Soccer, swimming lessons, Christmas concerts, any and all activities his grandkids were involved in he watched with pride and joy. For 24 years Stan was a dedicated employee at Federal Pioneer. During this time he went back to school and gained his Management degree from the University of Manitoba. He went on to work at New Flyer Industries until his retirement in 2010. Stan enjoyed many family vacations across Canada and the US. After 30 years of raising their family he and Carol ventured further and travelled to Europe, Hawaii, and Mexico. Throughout Stan's battle with cancer he never lost hope or gave up fighting. He went through many challenges during this time with optimism and dignity. This was true right to his very last days. He never complained or felt sorry for himself and was only concerned with how his family was coping. His family would like to thank the countless health care professionals Stan encountered on his journey at both CancerCare Manitoba and Palliative Care Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Stan's memory to Cancer Care Manitoba. A celebration of Stanley's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Rest in Peace Dad you are an inspiration and we love you.
