About | BEVERLEY JEAN HOMEWOOD (BOWMAN) In loving memory of Beverley Jean Homewood, who passed away on October 11, 2020, at the age of 72. She was predeceased by her husband, James Homewood, parents, John and Edna Bowman and partner, Len Kelly. Left to cherish Mom's memory are her three children, James (Stacey), Kristen (Stephen) and Tyler (Candice), seven grandchildren (who were her pride and joy), Emily, Morgan, Jaxon, Asher, Autumn, JJ and Gabriella. Mom also leaves behind her two sisters, Pat and Brenda and numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved dog Bella. Mom was born on March 7, 1948, the second daughter to John and Edna Bowman. She grew up in the North end in a peacetime home with her two sisters, Pat and Brenda. Mom attended Robertson Elementary School and Sisler High School. After High School she attended the Central School for Practical Nurses. Through Mom's 30 year nursing career she worked in both Pediatrics and Geriatrics at Children's Hospital, St. Paul's and University Hospital (in Saskatoon), Vista Park Lodge and Meadowood Manor Personal Care Homes. Mom met Dad through mutual friends of their parents. They were married on September 9, 1967 at St. John's Presbyterian Church. Although Mom and dad had three biological children, there was never a time when there were only three children in our household. Mom and Dad were foster parents to over sixty children. Most were with us on a temporary basis requiring care while receiving medical treatment. The exception to this were, Michael, Noah, Kenny and Ryan, who continued to be part of our family for many years. Mom and Dad raised our family in Winnipeg and Saskatoon. Before the move to Saskatoon, summers were spent growing up with Mom and Dad at Elenore Lake fishing and boating. Upon our return to Winnipeg, Mom and Dad found a new summer place to make memories in Lac Lu. They cherished the many memories of the good times they had during these summer getaways. Another important time in the Homewood household was Christmas with family and friends. Whether it was celebrating at the Watson house or hosting, a good time was had by all well into the night singing with the "house band" or enjoying Uncle George's puppet show. A current tradition carried on by Tyler for his own kids as well as his nieces and nephews. After Dad's death in 1999, Mom was lucky to find love and companionship with Len. They spent many years together and Len was known as "Papa Len" to mom's grandkids. They enjoyed travelling in his motor home, spending their winters in El Centro, California. Mom's pride and joy were her grandchildren. She loved to spend time with them, going to their various activities and hosting them for sleepovers. Her second bedroom was set up with a crib, bed, toys, books and games. She loved to go to garage sales to find treasures for her grandkids. In recent years Mom attended a Seniors Day Program through the YMCA. She enjoyed her weekly outings and the good friends she met. She also was a member of St. Mary's Road United Church and attended weekly services and Bible Studies. She made many friends and appreciated their support. Our family has so many people to thank. When mom's condition became Palliative, her one wish was to stay at home. Thank you to her amazing Palliative Care Team, Home Care Team, all her doctors and friends who supported her. Because of you all, we were able to grant mom's wish. As per mom's wishes, cremation will take place. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, it's not possible for a funeral at this time. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society 45 Hurst Way, Wpg, MB R3T 0R3 or St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road, Winnipeg, MB R2M 3L8.
