About JEANNIE (GIENIA) LENKIEWICZ

Peacefully, with family by her side, Jeannie Lenkiewicz passed away at Riverview Health Centre on Sunday, August 9, 2020, at the age of 66.
She will be deeply missed and remembered by her son Jeremy, daughter-in-law Kayla and granddog Kylo; brother Marian, sister-in-law Debbie and their children, Kristen (Kyle), Mathew (Meagan), her family members in Poland, and finally her cat Simon. Jeannie was predeceased and is forever reunited with her husband Larry Lane; mother and father Czeslawa "Jessie" and Stanley, and her brother Chester.
Jeannie was born on June 1, 1954, at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB to parents Stanley and Jessie Lenkiewicz. She grew up in the North End, first living on Parr Street, later moving to Lansdowne Street where she stayed until her early 20s when she moved out. Jeannie was a graduate of Sisler High, and after high school decided she wanted to become a nurse which she accomplished. Jeannie had a lengthy career as a nurse, she always wanted to help people and because of that excelled in her field of expertise, especially when it came to working with elderly people. Jeannie met the love of her life, Larry Lane, in the early 80s, where they enjoyed vacationing together, taking trips out to the lake with my aunts and uncles and later purchasing a home and starting a family. There is nothing Jeannie would not do for her family, and she was always her happiest when she was with them. She especially enjoyed having her son and daughter-in-law over for dinners at her apartment on Valhalla, where she would cook anything from Lasagna to Ribs, dinner was always followed by a lavish desert and coffee. Jeannie loved to talk and was an excellent listener, no matter what the situation, no matter what the time she would always take the time to listen and give advice where needed, the conversations we all had with her will be greatly missed. Jeannie loved to travel and has been to many places across the world, but primarily would visit British Columbia, almost an annual trip because it was such a special place to her, because there were special people there that she would visit. Her lifelong friend Mary-Ann and her husband Paul, and Fern were very special people to her and her son, even though they are not here in Winnipeg, Jeannie remained very close with them, and cherished their friendships. Another passion of Jeannie's was shopping, any time my mother needed to take her mind off of what was going on, she would call up her sister-in-law Debbie, whom she was very close with, and would head out for the day to go "take a look at some stuff", this usually ended up with her bringing some stuff home, but at the end of the day it made her happy and kept her busy, plus her son usually ended up benefiting from her shopping in some way, all was not lost. Very much like her mother, Jeannie also enjoyed baking, cooking and gardening when she had her home on Verbena, just like Babcia she was always complimented on her flowers, usually because Babcia would plant them and my mom would look after them, it was a team effort. Because Jeannie was such a devout Roman Catholic, her faith will ensure she is reunited with Babcia, Larry, Chester, and Uncle Vance, knowing this gives our family and friends great comfort.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 19 at Holy Ghost Parish (342 Pritchard Ave.) for 10:00 a.m., with a burial and reception to follow at Glen Eden Funeral Home and Cemetery (4477 Main Street). Due to Covid-19 restrictions attendance will be by invitation only.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation
And finally a special thanks to the palliative care program of Winnipeg, all the doctors and nurses that have helped Jeannie over the last 18 years, also to my aunt Debbie and Uncle Marian for giving her the care and comfort she needed over the last six months, your efforts will never be forgotten.
