About DOUGLAS NORMAN SLOBODIAN Douglas Norman Slobodian died suddenly on September 19, 2017. Born October 2, 1956, Doug lived his entire life in Winnipeg. A graduate of Sisler High School and the University of Manitoba, he worked for CKY Television until his retirement. Doug was one of two children born to Norman and Rose Slobodian. Doug will forever be remembered by his loving wife Marilyn; his two sons, Adam and Michael; daughter-in-law, Yen; grandchildren, Jasmin and Brendan; brother Garry, nieces and nephews, and friends too many to count. Doug was a talented musician, and he loved all sports. He was a staff member of the provincial champion Sisler Spartans football team and the national champion 1976 U of M Bisons basketball team. When his sons took an interest in hockey, he volunteered as an executive member of Winnipeg AAA Hockey. Doug enjoyed running an NFL pool, he also organized and hosted a monthly poker game with friends for 30 years. Doug is warmly remembered for his faithfulness to his family and to his mother in her final years. He was quick witted, funny, devoted to his family, dependable, and always willing to give an opinion. Doug was the truest friend and family member one could hope for. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Doug's body has been cremated, but his spirit will always be with those who knew him. A celebration of his life will be at a later date.
