Graduation Year Class of 1976
Date of Passing Jul 12, 2019
About Peacefully, in the early morning hours, with her husband by her side, Penelope took her Lord's Hand and entered Heaven.
She attended Rockwood Elementary School and Sisler High School. She graduated with the Degree of Bachelor of Arts from the University of Winnipeg and Master of Public Affairs from the University of Manitoba.
Penelope was predeceased by her parents, Mabel and Ted Weiss and sister Ellen Hudlin. She will be sorely missed by her loving husband David; children, Alina and Dustin; as well as sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and extended family.
She started as a young lady waitressing for Caterers, working her way through numerous jobs up to a 35-year career with the Government of Canada both in Winnipeg and Ottawa including Indigenous Services Canada, Public Service Commission as Analyst for Visible Minority File and Indigenous Services Canada as Manager Northern Flood Agreement and Manager Governance Unit. She was instrumental in drafting and implementing the Manitoba First Nation Community Development Strategy, which was the accomplishment closest to her heart.
Penelope was actively involved in her community from serving as Service Director and Audio Tech at Church (where she met fellow Audio Tech David Epp) to being a Board Member at Siloam Mission.
Some of Penelope's many enjoyments were Motor-Homing and spending long lazy summers in Detroit Lakes at her and David's favourite campground. She took great pleasure in travelling North America and Europe, but Paris was special.
She was an avid reader and accumulated a vast music collection of almost all genres, which she had meticulously organized into hundreds of playlists.
Penelope had a strong personal commitment to the Lord as witnessed by her Baptism in November, 1996. Pennie had a spirited and upbeat personality, loved family get-togethers and spending time with friends.
We wish to express many thanks to the doctors and staff at St. Boniface Hospital, Health Sciences Centre and Riverview Health Centre for their gentle and sensitive treatment.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at "The Meeting Place", 139 Smith Street. Free parking is available in the parkade next to the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Siloam Mission, the Meeting Place Church or Salvation Army.
