About | WILFRED TARLTON SHAW Born April 29, 1930, died December 9, 2003. Predeceased by his beloved wife Ruth Evelyn Shaw (nee Strate) and by his parents Joseph Tarlton (Jack) Shaw and Ada Shaw. Wilfred Shaw received his formal education at Transcona Central School. United College and the University of Manitoba, obtaining a Bachelor of Education degree in 1957 and a Master of Arts in 1960. Having specialized in history, he was awarded the United College Regents Medal for the Highest standing in Fifth year Honors. Wilfred Shaw enjoyed a varied career as a teacher (mainly of history, geography and English) at Lakeview Institute in Portage la Prairie, Fleming School in Brandon, Transcona Collegiate, Arthur Day High School in Transcona, Cosburn Junior High in East York (Toronto) and in Winnipeg at Sisler, Andrew Mynarski, J.B. Mitchell, Grant Park and finally as a teacher of English as a Second Language in Aberdeen School and in St. Johns High School. He retired in 1991 after thirty-eight years in teaching. During his eighteen years at Sisler he devoted himself to the Model United Nations Association. He also was active in the Transcona Teachers Association and in the Winnipeg Teachers Association. Until 1962 Mr. Shaw was a member of the Church of England and for several years was active in St. Georges Anglican Church, Transcona. He then became a member of Westminster United Church (where he served as an elder) and later of Oxford United Church where he served in a number of capacities. Since 1954 he was a member of Kildonan Lodge, No. 131, A.F. & gardening, fishing, and hunting. Very fond of travel, he visited many parts of Canada and the U.S., Denmark, England, Norway, Sweden, Hawaii and Jamaica. A memorial service will be held in the Garry Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at 2:00 p.m...
