About | ROBERT BRENT COFFEY (BONES) It is with great sadness that the family members announce the very sudden passing of Robert Brent Coffey, on Wednesday, November 17, 1999 at the young age of 41 years. Rob was born on April 9, 1958 and lived his entire life in the North End. He attended Shaughnessy Park Elementary and Sisler Jr. and Sr. High Schools. He worked at his dads shop of Beverley Truck and Bus Ltd. for many years until it was sold. He then was invited to join the team of (Mid-Canada) Maxim Collision where he proudly worked for the past five and a half years as shop foreman. Throughout his career he believed in quality work and ethical business practices and was very honoured to be associated with so many people in the business who felt as he did. At one point in Robs life he and Shirls took on the rewarding privilege of being parents. Their daughter Victory was born on December 30, 1993. It was at this time he decided to complete his high school education for the sake of his daughter. He soon found out his legacy was to be shared. On April 10, 1995, his daughter Robyn was born. He realized our family was truly blessed. Rob was also blessed with love and support from all of his family and friends, which he always offered in return. The number of people that Rob associated with and cared for are far too many to mention but please know he always wished the best for all because he was a real team player. Being an athlete, many of Robs fondest memories were related to teams he played on, all the way from minor hockey to the Seven Oaks Raiders, West Kildonan Bruins, the Devils and the Chiefs. Many summer months in his adult life were enjoyed by playing blooper ball and then slopitch in the WSMSL with Seven Oaks Transmission Bullshifters and the Bulls. He also secured many lifelong friends in his association with the Fone Bone Flyers Sponge Hockey Team, later which became the Joe-Jets Fan Club. However, Robs true passion became obvious when he and Shirls purchased their little piece of heaven on the Broken Head River. Whenever he awoke at the cottage, also known as the Coffey Grounds (a name he fondly related to past memories at his Papa and Nanas cottage), he made fresh coffee, sat on the porch facing the clubhouse, and waited for the glorious morning sunrise to invite him to the first T box for his morning game of golf with many others who shared his passion. Rob also shared this passion by beginning the Annual Bonesy World Open Golf Tournament for charity. He made sure we all had fun while doing something for the good of others. While enjoying so much in life with so many others, his greatest love was for his daughters who inspired him to laugh daily and love a lot, which he did. Left to mourn are his wife Shirley; daughters, Vicky and Robyn; mother Donna; brothers, Scott and Kevin; father Bob (Robert) and Bernice; in-laws, Maurice and Victoria Lakusta and in-law grandmother (Big Baba) Annie Lakusta, as well as members of a very large extended family he knew as good friends. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Rev. Doug Martindale officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the entire Chiefs Hockey Team who were with Rob in his final moments. Thank you to all of you for your support and compassion. The family also wishes to thank everyone for their very generous moral support. TO MY BEST FRIEND Thank you for choosing to share your life and your love with me. Love, Shirls In lieu of flowers, donations to The Robert Coffey Memorial Sports Fund for Youth will be accepted at the TD Bank in Tyndall Square on Burrows and Keewatin. Out of respect for the true Rob, please feel free to wear a cap and jeans. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 586-8044. As published in Winnipeg Free Press on Nov 21, 1999 |
