| About | Robert Bruce Levine, known to many as Bob or Dr. Bob and to his grandchildren as G-Bob, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025 after a brief illness. He was 74. Born and raised in Marin County, Bob grew up in a close-knit family with his mother, Sylvia “Oma” Levine, and sisters, Chere and Debby. The bond Bob shared with his sisters was forged through a loving and resilient childhood and strengthened over a lifetime, rooted in shared history, deep caring, and the steady knowing that they would always be there for each other. From those early years, he learned the importance of hard work, loyalty, and showing up unconditionally for the people you love. These values defined how he lived the rest of his life. After attending Drake High School (now Archie Williams), College of Marin, and UC Davis, Bob went on to earn his Doctor of Optometry degree in Southern California before returning home to build both his family and his practice. For more than three decades, he cared for generations of Marin families through his work at Marin Optometric Group. His steady presence, kindness, and genuine interest in others made his office feel like part of the community and turned many patients into close friends. Bob loved his partner of the last ten and a half years, Shauna Farr-Jones, also known as “Grandma Shauna,” and was deeply grateful for the life they shared. Together they enjoyed many wonderful travels and were rarely apart. They learned much from each other and loved biking, cleaning up the beaches at Point Reyes, and spending time together at “The Cabin” in Camp Connell. Family was everything to Bob, and even friends were treated as family. He was a devoted and endlessly supportive father to Dan, Abbey, and Andy, always there when they needed him and tireless in sharing his time and counsel to make his children’s lives as easeful and expansive as possible. He shared a deep bond with his son-in-law, Preston Picus, and took quiet pride in watching his children and their families grow into lives of their own, welcoming along the way Andy’s partner, Megan; Preston’s sister and brother-in-law, Piper and Mike; and Preston’s mother Heidi as important members of the family. He was the proud and playful G-Bob to his grandchildren, Penny, Parker, Logan, and Luminous, and also welcomed his great-nieces, Mazey and Hattie, into his heart with the same warmth. An eager babysitter, he loved to play with the children and take them on adventures to parks, zoos, and museums. His true joy came from being together: family dinners, weekend projects, and, most of all, the annual Fourth of July camping trips to Hendy Woods, a tradition he cherished and looked forward to all year. Bob had a natural gift for helping others, never seeking recognition, just quietly and consistently showing up when someone needed him. Whether lending his truck, remodeling a bathroom, or being there in moments of illness or grief, his generosity was instinctive. His kindness rippled outward as a steady, grounding force in the lives of so many who loved him. He is survived by his partner Shauna Farr-Jones, his children Dan, Abbey, and Andy, his grandchildren, his sisters, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family who adored him. Bob’s family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco for their compassionate care. |
