Paul Louis Thomson
Class of 1965
Army, 2 Years
From January 1967 to May 1968, I was a cook in Vietnam with the 1st Infantry Division Artillery - Headquarters Battery at first and then in the field as part of Charlie Battery 6/15th Artillery. Before I left Vietnam, I attained the rank of Specialist-5 and proved beyond a doubt that 20 year olds are morons by staying in a combat zone for an extra four months, just to get a three-month early out from the Army.
Guys like Terry Achor, who died in Vietnam in March 1968, are the "true" Honored Sierra High School Military Alumni. I saw his name one day on the casualty list in Stars and Stripes and never looked at the list ever again. I pray that all who didn't return have been granted eternal peace.
