Boot Camp and infantry training in CA, then 6 weeks in NC, then back to CA for jungle training and then 13 months in Viet Nam as Field Radio Operator with HQ 2-11 Artillery unit. Got out 1/2 month early to go back to Montana State to get my MS in Mech. Engr.

Army ROTC from 1963 to 1967, went on active duty in 1968, trained as Combat Engineer Small Unit Leader. Went on voluntary indefinite status and transferred from Fort Belvoir Virginia to Camp Samae San Thailand in May 1969. Assigned to 538th Engineer Battalion and took charge of earth moving operations in construction of Camp Samae San. Transferred to Fort Lewis Washington and assigned to Post Engineer Office in August 1970 until resigned commission in September 1972 and went to graduate school in Bozeman, Montana for advanced training in groundwater hydrology.
