| About Me | After graduating this old boy got into automotive school for about 6 mo. joined the Navy but was deferred for one year, Don Steins let me work there until time to go. I went to boot camp in San Diego late 66. My first duty was at the Navy Station North Island, VS 41 a training squadron. I was an Aviation Machinist’s Mate R (reciprocating engines ADR). After two years I had made E5 and was transferred to Norfolk Va. aboard the USS Putnam DD757. We made one Mediterranean cruise, Turkey, Greece, Monte Carlo, French Riviera, and Spain. The ship was placed in moth balls and I was transferred to the USS Fred T. Berry (DD858). In 1970 I went to “B” school in Tennessee then to Dam Neck Va. for survival training which meant next stop Vietnam. I was station at DaNang Naval Air Station. Then transferred to Albany Ga. Naval Air Station were I was discharged. It was fun It was real but It wasn’t real fun If you know what I mean. I was married in 67 to Deborah Mitchell we had one son when we were stationed in California Terry Jr. Then Scott came along in 1971 in Albany Ga. After leaving the Navy we stayed in Albany. My wife’s family lived here and was in construction so that’s what I did until P&G started a paper plant here in 1972. I was hired on making pampers then about a year later the paper machines started up and I transfer over to make Bounty and Charmin(BIG ROLLS). The jolly green giants could use these rolls. We would ship them to converting where they would make the small rolls and package them. Did that for 12 years, we work what you call a southern swing, I’d work 8 hours of rotating shifts from 1 to 2 then 3 shifts, the machines run 24/7. I transferred to the systems dept were we computerized the paper machines. I worked as a programmer and was there until I retired in Nov. 99. P&G was an excellent place to work. I was divorced in 1989; remarried to my best friend Becky in 1991; she also worked at P&G and retired the same day I did. We bought a house on Lake Seminole so we would have a place to get away from it all. We enjoy golf, fishing and just enjoying life. After retiring I did all the things I had wanted to do all my life so I got scuba certified, got my CDL, truck driving licenses but never drove on the open road, and private pilot licenses. I would like to sky...(read more) |
