My military experience was short, lasting four years from 1992-1996. Assigned to Bravo Co. 210, I attended Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri from October to December of 1992. In January of 1993, I attended AIT at Fort Sam Houston, TX for medical training to become a Medical Specialist (91B10). Assigned to Delta Co. 232, AIT lasted ten weeks and ended in March of 1993. My first duty station was in Kitzingen (in Bavaria), Germany. I was assigned to the 42nd Medical Company, an ambulance company, which was located on Larson Barracks. I was there briefly, approximately 8-9 months before the unit deactivated. I was restationed at Baumholder (in the district of Birkenfeld, in Rhineland-Palatinate), Germany in HHB DIVARTY 'til March of 1995. My next duty station was at Ft. Bragg, NC in the 28th Combat Support Hospital. I finished my active duty service as of October 8, 1996 with a honorable discharge. My final rank was a Specialist (pay grade E-4).

Captain Randy Crites, a native of Lima OH, is a 1984 graduate of The Ohio State University where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. While at Ohio State, he was selected as a Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate and was subsequently commissioned in 1985 through the Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI.

Following nuclear power and basic submarine officer training, he was assigned to USS RAY (SSN 653), home ported in Charleston, SC. While aboard RAY he completed several major fleet exercises and two North Atlantic deployments. Next, he reported to the Staff of Commander, Submarine Squadron FOUR in 1990 and then went back to sea in 1992 as Navigator and Operations Officer in USS ARCHERFISH (SSN 678), home ported in Groton, CT. While assigned to ARCHERFISH he completed two Mediterranean deployments and numerous operations in support of SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team TWO.

Following his Department Head assignment, he attended The College of Naval Command and Staff at the Naval War College in Newport, RI, where he completed a Master of Arts degree. Then in July of 1996, he reported to the United States Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, in Omaha, NE. While stationed at USSTRATCOM, he served in J54 as a Weapons System Programmer, responsible for many aspects of the planning, programming, and budgeting process. From Omaha, he returned to sea duty in Kings Bay, GA where he served as Executive Officer aboard USS NEBRASKA (SSBN 739) Gold, completing three Strategic Deterrent Patrols.

Upon completion of his Executive Officer tour, he went to the Pentagon in Washington DC where he served in the Programming Division on the Staff of the Chief of Naval Operations (N80), as head of the Submarine Program Section. Then in April 2003, he took command of USS WEST VIRGNIA (SSBN 736) Gold, completing four Strategic Deterrent Patrols. Following his sea command, Captain Crites was assigned to the Staff of Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, as the Senior Member of the Tactical Readiness Evaluation (TRE) Team in Norfolk, VA. In early 2007 he was appointed as the SUBFOR Prospective Commanding Officer Instructor (PCOI) where he is currently serving.

Captain Crites was recently selected for Major Command and will report as Commanding Officer USS FLORIDA (SSGN 728) Blue, stationed in Kings Bay GA, later in 2008.

His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various other personal and unit awards.

He is married to the former Cheryl Page also from Lima. They have two children; Meghan, a student at the University of Georgia and Jacob, a student at Camden County High School.
