THE SHAKER CLOCK

Dear Shaker Alumni,

As you know, The Shaker High School is a high school devoted to academic achievement for each student at a maximum level of ability. It is also committed to educating a whole child and to helping each student value the role of diverse cultures and beliefs toward enriching each student’s life. Formed in 1958, Shaker High School derives its name from the early Shaker communities that flourished in this area of New York State. Shaker High School, a part of the North Colonie Central School District, has achieved prominence in academic achievement, educational leadership, and extracurricular activities.

The World of Difference Club believes that an environment of civility and respect can be created among the entire school community when they recognize and embrace their cultural and historical heritage. Furthermore, the World of Difference Club finds the location of Shaker High School in the center of the original Shaker Society with its meetinghouses which are still standing and the Ann Lee cemetery to be a treasure which could form a base of modeling our students and our school community into a model “family.”

What did the Shaker “families” stand for? They lived together firmly committed to:
• respect for each other and all others
• acceptance of all people
• devotion to high moral standards
• belief in the virtue of doing good for others
• community-shared responsibility

Every successful movement needs a focal point or rallying symbol. The members of the World of Difference Club have done their research and believe that The Shaker Clock standing with dignity at the center of the Shaker High School community to be seen by all students as they enter and leave each day could be that symbol which says, “We Are One Shaker.”

The Shaker Clock will be located in the quad courtyard at the high school.

If you wish to contribute towards The Shaker Clock, please send your gift of money to:
