David Richard Phillips attended Shades Valley High School in Birmingham, AL.

PHILLIPS, DAVID R., age 50, went to be with his Savior on April 26, 2003. He served in The US Navy from l971-1975. A graduate of Auburn University, he taught for 23 years at Columbiana Middle School, where he loved teaching children. He also enjoyed coaching, officiating basketball and playing golf. He was a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Area Leader for several years. He liked to volunteer with the Special Olympics.
He is survived by his wife, Beverley Phillips; daughter, Wynne Phillips; mother, Dorothy Phillips of Hoover; sister, Susan Shannon of Tennessee. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 28, 2003 from 6:00 until 8 PM at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel. A private graveside will be held Tuesday, April 29, 3004 at 11:30 AM at Elmwood Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at 11:30 AM at Briarwood Presbyterian Church in the chapel. Ridout's Elmwood Chapel directing 251-7227.
