About David Glen Robinson, 57, of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011. David was born in Birmingham, Alabama; the eldest son of Dr. Glen E. Robinson and the late Dorothy Dollar Robinson.
He is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Cynthia Thames Robinson, and their daughter, Laura Corinne Robinson, both of Murfreesboro.
He leaves behind his father, Dr. Glen E. Robinson of High Point, NC; his parents-in-law, William W. and Lucille Price Thames of Brookhaven, MS; his brother Patrick G. Robinson and wife Wendy of Blacksburg, VA; his sister Susan Alexander and husband David of High Point, NC; his brother-in-law, William W. Thames III and wife Sandra of Ocean Springs, MS, and his three nieces, Kimberly Thames of Milan, Italy, Jessica Thames of Ocean Springs, MS and Kristina Alexander of High Point, NC.
David considered Robert and Emily Yent of Bainbridge, GA part of his family; along with Linda Bergeron of Yorktown, VA, the late Colonel Scott Bergeron and their sons Sean Bergeron and his wife, Sarah, of Norfolk, VA and Stuart Bergeron and his wife, Melissa, of Arlington, VA.
A graduate of the University of Misissippi and the University of Alabama, David was the Systems Department Head at Walker Library, Middle Tennessee State University. His contributions to MTSU throughout his tenure of twenty-five years were significant. He valued and depended on his close associate Michael Wheaton, and all his colleages in the MTSU community.
David was proud to be an adult volunteer for the Girl Scouts of the United States of America for over twenty years. He was awarded the Appreciation Pin for his outstanding efforts and support of Girl Scouting. His belief in the mission of Girl Scouting enhanced the lives of many girls and young women and their families in Middle Tennessee.
The Robinson family's involvement with Girl Scouting has yielded many special relationships for David, Cindy and Laura. Belinda and Lee Qualls and their daughters Morgane and Christa, Linda and Alan Hall and their children Jeremy and Kristin, Cindy and Sam Ingram and their daughters Allison and Emily, Gwen and Phillip Booth and their children Amanda and Phillip Michael, and Nancy and Robert Woolfolk and their daughters Megan and Shannon were, and are, all cherished friends. Their friendship with Debbie Utterback and the late Dale Utterback and their children Emily and Matthew was a unique one. Emily is Laura's dearest friend and David proudly claimed her as his "other daughter".
David will be greatly missed by a host of other friends and his large extended family.
David grew up in the United Methodist Church, and later joined the Southern Baptist Church. A professed believer, David considered his wife's family church, Union Hall Baptist Church in Brookhaven, MS, as his church home, although his membership currently resided at First Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, TN.
On Saturday, November 5, 2011, there will be a 1:30 pm graveside service at Union Hall Baptist Church Cemetery. The service will be conducted by the Reverend Dennis Dunn, who baptized David into the Baptist Church, and officiated at David and Cindy's wedding.
