Patricia Maria Marx was the very first SFHS Drum Major. She won the position in open competition with Betty Ann Harris, Barbara Hultquist, Esther Westmoreland and Shirley Little.during the year 1952-53. She was 14 yrs old. She led the band until she graduated in 1956 During her reign, we won our first marching awards in UIL competition. During high school she won many beauty contests, modeled for clothing dealers in Galveston and Houston and became the poster girl on the Galveston Chamber of Commerce's official brochure for about 15 years. All the twirlers are alive and in the area except for Shirley Little. She committed Suicide a few years ago.
