Roland died as a result of a car accident in Moore, Oklahoma. He was returning home from work when he was involved in an accident with a drunk driver. Roland was married to his third wife at the time and had three children from previous marriages. I had dated Roland in 1980-1981 and we remained friends for years afterwards.
