About Me	I was born in Jacksonville, NC in 1966. I was the 5th of 6 children in my family, born to Barbara and Bernie Terhorst. My dad was a major in the Marine Corps stationed in Viet Nam. After I was born the military moved us to Southern California for 3 years in Orange County. While Mom and the kids were there my dad’s plane was shot down in Viet Nam and he was killed in 1969. We moved to Woodbridge, VA to be closer to my mom’s family in New York. In 1979, when I was in 8th grade we moved from Virginia to Novato, CA. During my senior year of High School my brother, Tony was killed in a car accident. After high school I went to college at Chico State and graduated in '89 with a double major in Liberal Studies and Psychology. Then I joined the Peace Corps and went to Liberia, West Africa to teach high school science and math. I was evacuated after 4 months because of a civil war in that country and came home to manage a Ritz Camera store for two years. Then I met a friend that worked for Birkenstock at their main office in Novato and I worked there for 15 years doing sales, marketing and analysis. During that time I also worked for Birch Circle Adventures as a river rafting guide and driver, running rivers all over California and Oregon. I’m an adventure fanatic and have traveled quite a bit. In 1994 I quit Birkenstock for a 1 year hiatus and joined the Student Conservation Association doing wildlife monitoring at Fire Island National Seashore in New York and re-vegetation work at Canyonlands National Park in Utah. I’ve taken a lot of vacation trips with Green Tortoise Adventure Travel to Baja and Mexico, Cross Country-USA, Burning Man in Nevada (5 years in a row), New England – Fall Colors, Death Valley, Costa Rica, Alaska and Yosemite. I did a rotary club vocational exchange program called Group Study Exchange to Perth, Australia in 2003 and spent a month with families in Western Australia learning about life “down under”. And last summer I went to Peru for 3 weeks with friends and hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. It was spectacular. Next we want to do the Milford Track in New Zealand. Maybe in 2009. I was laid off from Birkenstock in February 2006 and decided to move to Nevada City, CA to be closer to most of my family who had retreated to the foothills. My mom and I bought a duplex up here (she lives upstairs and I live downstairs). Over the years all of my family members from the foothills moved away or passed away except Mom and me. I finally sold my house in Petaluma in 2011. Nevada City is in the beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills near the Yuba River. I'm in heaven. I'm an outdoor enthusiast so this place is perfect for me; nestled in the pine forests with great hiking, camping, snowshoeing and kayaking opportunities. I worked for a medical malpractice insurance company as the Director of Operations for their risk management division in Roseville, CA from 2006 until I was laid off in May 2012.
