About	Susan Joy Petersen, 75, of Folsom, CA, passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2024 in Roseville, California. Born to Ralph and Madelon Leiphardt on September 25, 1948, Susan was an adored daughter and an older sister to Jeff Leiphardt, Lori Leiphardt, Karen Grover, and Leslie Parker. Susan was a strong and shining light in her community and a proud graduate of UC Santa Barbara. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Madelon, and her beloved husband, Steven Petersen. Susan created a beautiful life filled with adventure, love, and family. She and her late husband, Steve, bought their first home in Los Gatos, CA before relocating to Sacramento, CA in 1982. While raising their two children, Susan began her career as an elementary school teacher, and at the age of 50, she earned her Master's Degree in Special Education. In 2000, Susan and Steve built their dream home in Folsom, CA. Over the 20+ years working in the San Juan School District, Susan formed lasting bonds with colleagues which she cherished greatly. After retiring, she enjoyed spending time in Folsom and in her later years was a devoted Nana, immensely proud of her treasured grandchildren, Jack and Max. Susan was diagnosed with cancer in December 2023 and she faced the illness with bravery and strength. Throughout treatment, she remained positive and focused on the things that brought her joy and comfort - her family, her dear friends, and her sweet dog, Tucker. Her courage was an inspiration to all who knew her and she will be deeply missed. Susan is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Todd and Kathy Petersen, step-grandchildren Katelynn and Ashlee, daughter and son-in-law Jayme and Michael Putnam, twin grandsons, Jack and Max, and siblings, Jeff Leiphardt, Lori Leiphardt, Karen Grover, and Leslie Parker. A Celebration of Life will be held in August for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Susan's name can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Sacramento SPCA.
