Suzy was determined to grow out her hair as quickly as possible, and she got through the awkward phases by putting it up. She was a very sweet person, and I was fortunate to have many classes with her at San Marcos and La Colina. I remember her telling a story at a reunion that she got a job by having a Latino last name and checking the "fluent in Spanish" box on the application. They sure were surprised when a Caucasian showed up for work!
