Navy, 11 Years

I was a Main Propulsion Assistant on 2 tin cans putting the 2nd in commission where I got to meet and have cocktails wit Admiral and Mrs. Zumwalt (CNO). I'm a Vietnam Vet, but fortunately was at sea the whole time following an aircraft carrier in case a pilot didn't make the landing. Then I spent the next 8 years in shore duties as a HR manager and Director of Drug and Alcohol Counseling at bases in Japan, Great Lakes IL and Puerto Rico. I'm authorized to wear a Unit Citation medal. Our base in PR responded to hurricane relief for Dominican Republic. Our XO made me a deal. If I could write up a winning request for the citation, I wouldn't actually have to go to the Dom Rep. I did and we got the citation. Actually my buddies were glad to go to the jungle for a week's tour rather than write anything.
