About Gloria Marie Moran, 82, a lifelong Rushville resident, peacefully passed away, Easter Sunday April 5, 2015 at Rush Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.

Born March 14, 1933 to Charles and Rose Lee (Wallace) Towne, Gloria spent many a childhood day happily helping her parents in their neighborhood grocery store. She graduated from Rushville High School in 1952 and on December 26, 1955, married David P. Moran who survives.

Not one to sit still, Gloria enjoyed working at Stoner’s and Minear’s Dress Shops during the 1970’s and early 1980’s. Active in the county’s Democrat party, she was elected for two terms to the Rushville City Council (District 1) in 1983 and 1987. During this time, she vigorously campaigned for both Congressman Phil Sharp and Governor Evan Bayh and relished her appointment to serve as locality advisor to the State of Indiana’s Film Commission. In 1990, Gloria was named Business and Professional Women’s Organization “Woman of The Year”, an award she truly treasured.

Throughout her life, Gloria’s civic pride and passion for the community of Rushville and Rush County were apparent. She “rallied the troops” with other involved citizens and state leaders to preserve our county’s historic covered bridges as well as The Booker T. Washington School. She loved all music (from Johnny Cash to Lady Gaga) and the theatre, appearing in numerous Rush County Player productions and receiving a “Hammy Award” or two . Her role as an extra in the classic film “Hoosiers” was just one of many life highlights. A member of St. Mary Catholic Church since 1971, Gloria’s beautiful voice could be heard on special Sundays and holidays with the church choir.

During retirement years, Gloria and Dave loved wintering in Panama City Beach, Florida where they met so many new and dear friends. She was a 62 year member of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority, especially enjoying her role as historian for many years. She served on the Board of Rush County Heritage Association and was a dedicated member of Indiana Historic Landmarks. Over the years, Gloria was active with the Girl Scouts, Boys and Girls Club, RCHS Athletic Boosters, RCHS Alumni Association, Rush County Players, and Democrat Women’s Club.

She will always be remembered for her love of people, gardening, travel, art, books, photo albums, Indianapolis Colts and the RCHS Boys Soccer Team. Gloria was a devoted wife, loving, encouraging, and proud mother and mother-in-law, and dedicated friend to all.

Left to cherish her memory are husband of 59 years, David P. of Rushville; son, David Charles and daughter, Dawn Marie and husband Craig Trent, all of Rushville; granddaughter Jessica and husband Zach Buchholz, precious great-grandchildren Gabriel and Presley Rose of Englewood Ohio. She will be missed by nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.

Gloria was preceded in death by parents Charles and Rose Lee Towne, brother Dick Towne, and sisters Doris Carfield and Janet Hunsinger.

A Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, April 10, 2015, 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Friends may call 4-8 PM Thursday, April 9, 2015 with the rosary at 4 PM at Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Rushville.

Memorial contribution may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Boys and Girls club of Rush County.
