RUSHVILLE — Benjamin A. "Ben" Earley, 90, of Kendallville died Monday, July 30, 2012, in The Chandler House, Kendallville.

He attended Anderson High School. He graduated from Ball State University in 1943, majoring in History. He received his Master's Degree from Indiana University.

Mr. Earley began his teaching career at Noblesville High School where he served as assistant basketball coach. He then became a History teacher at Muncie Central High School. Three years later he was asked to become Assistant Principal and Dean of Boys. In 1957, he became Principal of the Rushville High School. Then from 1965 to 1984, he was the Principal at the Kendallville Middle School.

Ben was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa, Alpha Chapter at Indiana University. He was Past President of both the Rushville and Kendallville Rotary Clubs. He was a member at Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville for many years, serving in many capacities.

His interests included sports, exercise, reading, family, and Bible study.

He was born November 5, 1921, in Bluffton, to Benjamin and Margaret Earley. He met Kathleen Mabus at Muncie Central High School where she was a teacher. They were married August 3, 1952, in Muncie. She preceded him in death on January 25, 2007.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gregory Earley of Fishers and Michael and Vicky Earley of Carmel; four grandchildren, Ross Earley, Evan Earley, Lauren Schlenk, and Liza Earley; and a new great grandson, Raylan.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Earley and a nephew, Stephen Earley.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Calling is Friday, August 3, 2012, from 3 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Preferred memorials are to Common Grace of Noble County or the Benjamin Earley Memorial Scholarship Fund.
