| About Me | After finishing college in Civil Engineering, I moved to California and stayed there till 1972 when I left the States. Traveled around a bit in Europe and ended up in Stockholm, Sweden where I had a friend and got a job. I worked there first teaching English and then when I knew enough Swedish, I began teaching math and physics in the Swedish school system. Sweden was like a Bergman film then - sort of catatonic, but I had many good friends and took lots of time off to travel. Met my first wife in 1975 and we had two kids, Konrad and Mercedes born in 1984 and 1986 respectively. From 1977 on we traveled a lot. We drove overland in an old Mercedes bus converted to a camping bus to India, Sri Lanka and Nepal, spending time in Turkey and Afghanistan. Around 1980 we started going down to Southern Europe (Spain and Portugal) and spending time in Morocco too. But it got a bit difficult to travel so much when we got kids, so I started working again full time in Sweden and settled into the routine of raising small children. We separated in 1989, and in 1994 I went to Thailand for the first time. It changed my life. After only two weeks I stumbled into a job teaching math and science in a little international school in Pattaya. Stayed there three years then moved to Phuket to work as a scuba diving instructor. Towards the end of 1997, I went back to Thailand after a brief trip to Sweden, California and South Africa. I rented a bungelow and met my future wife who was my neighbor. She had a daughter she named Benz (before she met me) and we had two more kids together, a daughter Jackie born in 1999 (on the same date as my son in Sweden) and a son, Tony born in 2002. After a year in Phuket, we moved here to Kantharalak, in the northeast of Thailand near Ubonratchathani. We live on a farm with the kids and have fish ponds, cows, a garden and grow rice. On a clear day driving out to the farm from Kantharalak I can see the mountains in Laos to the east and the mountains along the Cambodian border to the south. It's a great life and a healthy life too. Thailand is the most enjoyable country I have been in and the Thai people are really wonderful. You are welcome to visit us. We have an extra house and some choppers (and smaller bikes) to get around on. Thailand is a great place to retire, as the cost of living is about 20% the cost of living in the States.
