| About Me | A short history of my life for my old friends. After High School I went to Reed College and majored in mathematics. I graduated in 1967 and went to University of Oregon. At Oregon I was a political activist and draft resister but still managed (after seven years, one of which I spent working in Portland as a computer programmer) to get a Ph.D. in mathematics with a specialty in statistics. I married Ellen Beeks in 1974 and spent a year in a postdoctoral fellowship in biostatistics at Stanford before moving to Buffalo to work on cancer research at the Statistics Laboratory. Our first child Heather was born in Buffalo. After a year in Buffalo we moved to Sharon Massachusetts because the Statistics Laboratory moved to the Harvard School of Public Health. I have been on the Harvard Faculty since then. I am a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and work at the Biostatistics Center at Massachusetts General Hospital.
