About	Entrepreneur, Coach, Husband, Father Steve Hawes, 46, of Fort Collins, Colorado, died July 27, 2016. Steve was born January 16, 1970 in Fort Collins to David and Barbara Hawes. Steve owned his own property management firm and was a successful business man but what he valued most was his family and friends and his role as "Coach Hawes." For 23 years Steve coached men's basketball at Loveland and Poudre High Schools. Steve touched the lives of many area players, students, and parents, and he said that every one of them touched his life and taught him something. Many became life-long friends. Steve graduated from and played golf and basketball for Rocky Mountain High School. Steve played JV basketball and received his bachelor's degree at the University of Wyoming. He earned his MBA at Colorado State University. Steve surprised his future wife Shawna (Marsh) by taking her on a hike to Surprise Lake in Wyoming's Grand Teton Mountains, kneeling down in the snow, and proposing. Steve and Shawna were married in 2002. For many years they hoped for children and were finally blessed with a daughter Nora Lee who was born in 2014. In April 2016, Steve was diagnosed with melanoma. The following week Steve and Shawna learned that she is pregnant with their second child. One of Steve's and his family's traditions was to celebrate his "second birthday" on April 9, the day on which in 1997 he had open heart surgery and received a life-saving artificial heart valve.The date was especially meaningful to Steve as it also marks the date of his Grandfather George Hawes' death at age 98, his brother Rem's and his wife Tina's first date in 1988, and Steve's father David's birthday in 1938. Steve and Shawna loved to travel. He was an avid golfer, sports aficionado, and unforgiving Broncos fan. He enjoyed spending summers with his family in Maine. He loved Fort Collins and he had many friends and was fiercely loyal to them. Survivors include his wife Shawna, daughter Nora Lee, parents David and Barbara Hawes, brother Rem and his wife Tina and their daughters Morgan and Xan.
