| About Me | I've done a little bit of everything & been blessed every step of the way - Competed for Mizzou's cross-country team (7th man as a Freshman); earned a BS in Biochemistry & an MS in Nutritional Biochemistry under Dr. Dennis Gordon at Mizzou; married Stephanie Lynn Zeek of Lake Ozark, MO; earned a PhD in Cellular Nutrition under Dr. Robert Cousins at the University of Florida in Gainesville; completed postdoctoral work under Dr. Alfred Merrill at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta while Steph worked as Assistant Director of Human Resources for Jimmy Carter at the Carter Presidential Center; served as a member of the Human Nutrition faculty at Michigan State University in East Lansing & worked in research & development at Pfizer in Ann Arbor. Steph earned a BA in Economics at Mizzou & an MS in Human Resources at Florida. She is Senior Director of Human Resources at Michigan Medicine. We've raised 2 great children, Nick & Natalie, and I coached some of their youth basketball & soccer teams. Both were honor students at Brighton High School & in college. Nat was All-County in basketball & qualified for the state track meet as a senior. Nick was All-State in both basketball & soccer, a state top 20 free throw & 3-point shooter, & Detroit Free Press Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Nat turned down an NAIA basketball scholarship to instead earn a BS in Kinesiology at Michigan State in 2016. At MSU she was active in student government on Junior and Senior Class Council & as a representative to the General Assembly. In May 2018 she completed a second BS, this one in Nursing, at Valparaiso University in Indiana and is currently a Pediatric nurse at Mott Children's Hospital at Michigan Medicine. She married Derek Talaga who holds a BS from Alma College and an MBA from Northwood University. and is employed by National Food Group. In May 2015 Nick graduated summa cum laude from the University of Evansville School of Public Health in Indiana with a BS in Exercise Science & minor in Public Health. Nicknamed "Big Cat" by his teammates, he was an All-Missouri Valley Conference player & scholar-athlete for the school's NCAA D1 soccer team. As a senior, he earned the league's top scholar-athlete accolade, the Presidents Academic Excellence Award, as well as Missouri Valley Conference and NCAA postgraduate scholarships. He put the scholarships to work at the #1 Physical Therapy program in the nation, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where he was a Merit Scholar and Research Assistant.
