Dennis Gale Berg passed away
at Swedish American Hospital
in Rockford, IL on December
25, 2023. He was born on
December 22, 1950 in Harvard,
Illinois. He was the son of
Gale and Mary Ellen
(O’Malley) Berg. He married Avis Charlene Allison on
November 15, 1974 in Oregon, IL. He retired from
Verizon Phone Company after 35 years as a construction
supervisor. Dennis was a former Rochelle City
Councilman and a former Rochelle Area Community
Foundation Board of Director. He enjoyed being out on
the golf course with his many friends. He also spent time
with his Thursday and Saturday breakfast group buddies.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife Avis, his mother
Mary Ellen Berg of Casselberry, Florida; also his siblings:
Howard (Irene) Berg of Granby, Connecticut, Alan
(Veralee) Berg of Tyrone, New Mexico, Ron (Liz) Berg of
McHenry, IL, Steve (Mary) Berg of Orlando, Florida,
Diane Marc Esterabadi) Berg of Casselberry, Florida;
brother-in-law, Bob Burkholder of Elburn, Illinois; and
many nieces and nephews. Dennis is preceded in death by
his father Gale Berg and his sister, Donna Berg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the BergBurkholder Family Fund through the Rochelle Area
Community Foundation. This fund was established by
Dennis and Avis Berg, along with Bob Burkholder, in
support of youth here in Rochelle.
Visitation will be on Saturday, December 30, 2023 from
9:00am - 10:45 am at the Unger Horner Funeral Home,
400 N 6th St., Rochelle. Funeral will be at 11:00 am on
Saturday at the Unger Horner Funeral Home with Rev.
Doug Forsberg officiating. Burial will follow at the
Lawnridge Cemetery. A celebration of life service with
food and fellowship will be held at a later date.
