About Me	Started a non-profit organization for lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender youth in San Francisco. The agency is called the Lavender Youth Recreation and Information Center (LYRIC) and it's 21 years old this year. I got my doctorate and I've taught at the Unviersity of Northern Iowa, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and currently I am at California State University, Sacramento. I received a fellowship to live and work in Leeds, England from 2001-2002 and did quite a bit of travelling that included a week of teaching at a university in the netherlands. I've published many journal articles, book chapters and co-authored a textbook. I've been a department chair for four years in the Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration. We train students to work in hosptiality, tourism, national parks, local parks and therapeutic recreation and we have 11 full-time faculty and several part-time faculty who teach more than 1,000 students each semester. In my free time, I'm active in my community. I live in a redevelopment area in Sacramento and was appointed by the mayor to sit on the redevelopment advisory committee which oversees the distribution of millions of dollars for neighborho...(read more)
