Combat troop movement, transportation corp.. Moving troops through our area into further training for jungle training, than onto the war that never was. 70,000 lost, and many spit apuon that came home in one or serveral peices.

Beginning of Vietnam Era. Boot Camp at Parris Island, SC. Graduated with Meritorious Promotion. Photo in local recruiting literature and article in The Leatherneck magazine.
Stationed at WMD-1, MCAS El Toro, Santa Ana, CA. Worked in Teletype/Comm Center.
Also served in AF Reserves in the late 70's and early 80's.

Served in the U.S. Air Force Security Police with assignments in San Antonio, TX; Spokane, WA; and a 3 year tour at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany (located near Luxembourg). The Air Force enabled me to travel throughout Europe, ski the Austria slopes, it paid for my college studies at SCSU, and I met my wife while in the Air Force. Please support the troops who were not as furtunate as my generation and who sacraficed much more than they ever received!

After 10th grade, got married Aug 8th of 61, turned 17 on the 15th and enlisted in the Air Force on the 17th of Aug 61. Attended Basic Training and Basic Medical school at Lackland AFB, TX. Stationed at Larson AFB, WA (Moses Lake). Didn't care for Medical Admin, so retrained into Electronics. School at Biloxi, MS then to Tinker AFB, OK (OKC). Then 15 months, Sardinia, Italy, then Hastings RBS, NE. Left the service Feb 69. Enlisted Air Force Reserve as a Loadmaster on C130's. Then Recruiting, retiring Mar 1, 1993.

Enlisted in the Navy back in 1980, completed 4 stateside tours and 6 overseas tours before retiring in 2001. Was a very enjoyable career, both on shore and seaduty. Working in Supply/Logistic, Customs Service, Naval Construction Force, Naval Security, and Naval Aviation. I was afforded the opportunity to meet and work with lots of great people and see the world.

Marine Helicopter Squadron HMR 461. Based in North Carolina (New River Air Facilitly). Our main challenge was moving troops via verticlal envelopment, I was assigned "Project Mercury" recovery force. We brought our original 7 astronauts back once their space craft returned to eartlh. It was fun being part of history.

After graduating from medical school on a Navy health professions scholarship, I served as a general medical officer in Seattle, WA in 1988. On completion of flight surgery training I was a flight surgeon with the Marine Air Wing at Cherry Point, NC. I then completed residency in Portsmouth, VA in 1996 and subsequently spent the next 14 years teaching residents at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, retiring in October, 2010.

Also a member of the Maxwell AFB rifle team competing in marksmanship competitions.

Son of Jeanine Vaughn-Risnes (class of 1978) and Scott C. Risnes (class of 1976). Served as a Surgical Assist for 2 tours in Iraq, 1 turn in Kuait. Also "borrowed" while in Baghdad Iraq from the US Army for their Mass Casuilty Team.

My brother Bill was an Aviation Fire Control Technician (AQ1) from 1968-1988. He served on the USS Enterprise CVN65 among other ships. He passed from this world in January 1999 watching the Vikings win a division playoff game.
