Louis was too cool, as a teenager, but he was also an assistant dance instructor for Mrs. Gibson of Fort Nightly at the Riverside Village Hall. Music there, at the time, was a small band of two old men on stage, a pianist and a blind drummer. Gibson was leading, music was going, junior high kids were dancing, and it was then that the piano started rolling to the footlights pocket and front of the stage. The pianist stayed back on his bench, and his arms were stretching out farther as the piano rolled to disaster. That smiling blind drummer kept up the beat, totally oblivious, and Berger hauled ass to hold the piano in place, his feet planted securely on the dance floor. The rest of the team got to the stage, and we all set the piano back in place, wheels locked for sure this time. The evening continued as if nothing ever happened. (We were making $8 a night for helping out at two classes.)
