CLASS OF '64 LUNCH
Next lunch will be Jan. 6th, 12:00, Fini’s Landing.
Information
It was decided that we would meet the first Monday of the month, 12:00, unless it was a holiday.
We decided that for the time being we would continue having our lunches at Fini’s. They have enough room to accommodate us. We had over 30 people at our last lunch. There are 30 here now give or take a few.
At our lunches family and friends are always welcome. It was decided not to open our lunches to all members of other classes unless they are a relative or a friend.

Barb Stanley Berheim, Keen Quinn, and Alicia Marrano, our artist, met with James Marques, Rincon’s Engineer, Nov. 14th. Mr. Marques showed us three locations. First, the building across the grass amphitheater, second in front of the Administration Building on the East side, and last by the door, of the building on the East side of the Senior Patio. We all agreed that the last location was the best. It would be seen by students as they passed from class, close to the benches and the trees we planted at the 50th Reunion, and close to the other logo that will be placed in the sidewalk.
PS: On a funny note - Mr. Marques told us that UHS would probably copy us since they have done this in the past. (We were the first to place benches. Now there are several others.)
Andi Hopper was able to get pictures of the original and the replacement logos from Tom Barringer. We need to decide what we want and the colors. The original was purple, white, and gray. The replacement was purple, white, and tan. Our artist Ms. Marrano is ready to get started.
Barb had a wonderful chance encounter with Scott Welch, brother of Paula Welch. See other side.
Today is such a beautiful day and I'm on cloud nine because of a chance encounter I had with two people at a garage sale! Read the whole story below:
I was coming home from errands and saw a YARD SALE sign about a mile from my house. Impulsively, I turned into the driveway, knowing full well I had no business at a yard sale since I'm moving. However, I got out and was looking around when the lady came out of the house. She was knitting and I told her I was a knitter also. We got to talking and she said she had attended and later taught at Catalina High School. I volunteered I was a Rincon grad and she said her husband graduated from there in 1963. She went in the house to have him come out and when he did I introduced myself as he did......his name is SCOTT WELCH -----brother of PAULA WELCH!!!! I immediately started telling them about the mosaic and he got tears in his eyes and said he has tried for years to get someone to pay attention to that mosaic. He's called the school and the Foundation and has never received a call back. He said if we need any money to contact him. Then he went in the house and brought out a bronze sculpture of the hat and boots that had been presented to Paula and now he has it.
I left feeling that today's encounter was meant to be even though I had no business going to a yard sale! What a great day!!
Give my love tomorrow to the Rangers. Someday I'll be able to come to lunch too

Thank you to Kathy, our “President” for sharing news at our lunches. Andi for taking care of our lunches at Fini’s, starting the drawings, contacting Tom Barringer and getting pictures of the tile logos., Helen for being so creative and providing us with center pieces and drawings at many, many lunches. Violet for doing whatever she is asked to do without complaining. Polly for arranging our first lunch and for volunteering her “Party House” for a party in 2025. Pete for taking care of our computer issues, without making us feel behind the times and setting up easy email for us. Ken and Susan for taking pictures and posting them on Facebook. (Ask Ken about his Kangaroo photo). The staff at Fini’s for making us feel welcome. AND, especially thanks to all of you for coming and making these lunches so enjoyable.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy New Year!
