About | Obituary Thomas M. Rubcic, 57, currently of Sherman Oaks, CA, passed away October 2, 2016 at Kaiser Sunset Medical Center. Born on July 28, 1959 to John and Joanne Rubcic, he grew up in Santa Maria and pursued a career in Hospitality Accounting. His winning smile, honesty, candor, generosity, and humor made him loved by family and friends alike and his bright light in this world will be sadly missed. Rosary Service: Friday, Oct. 14, 7:00pm; Funeral Service: Saturday, Oct. 15, 9:30am, at Chapel of the Hills, Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills. Tom's favorite charities supported efforts to find a cure for Neurofibromatosis Dear Friends, It is with the greatest sorrow that I let you know of the passing of my wonderful brother and best friend Thomas Rubcic. He had the heart and courage of a lion and fought bravely against the giant aneurysm discovered in his brain on a routine hearing exam. Never one to sit around and wait, Tom decided to pro-actively deal with this enemy on his terms rather than waiting for it burst unexpectedly. He underwent a double stinting procedure on August 25th at Kaiser Sunset Medical Center. While the doctors thought the procedure was a technical success, within hours of recovery the first of many setbacks presented itself. Tom fought valiantly against numerous setbacks that occurred over the following month and week until the final setback in the form of a massive stroke and hemorrhage at the brain stem. My sweet brother left us on Sunday night, October 2nd with family surrounding him with love. He is in peace, at last and no longer suffering the incessant pokes, prods, repositioning, and testing of the ICU. Through the many prayers of family, friends, and people that didn’t even know him, we expect he is now joining many family and friends in Heaven and checking out the fit of his new wings. Only 11 months apart in age, Tommy and I were considered ‘Irish Twins.’ As his bossy big sister I spent most of my life trying to protect him from the many challenges he was dealt. I am devastated that I could not protect him from this one. We traveled, laughed, and shared so many of Life’s wonderful adventures and experiences together …none of which will be the same without him. He is missed more than words can say…and the world has lost a truly bright light. He will be loved and remembered always. Theresa |
