About | Obituary Elaine S. Melena was in her home, surrounded by all the angels, saints and her family when she went with the Lord on January 17, 2010. She was born in Santa Maria on February 26,1959 and raised in Guadalupe, CA. She eagerly attended Guadalupe Elementary Schools and graduated early from Ernest Righetti High School in 1976. She also went on to pursue an education in child development at Allan Hancock College. She always enjoyed education and demonstrated a whole hearted joy for learning and teaching. In 1976, she married Mark T. Melena and they blissfully celebrated thirty years of marriage. Their love for each other could only be described as devotionally loving. They are now together sharing an eternal relationship in heaven. Out of that union of love they had three wonderful daughters, Jennifer Melena, Anna Marie Melena-(Manuel) Andrade and Darlene "Justie" Melena. Elaine was blessed with four grandchildren, Nethanuel Anthony Thomas Andrade, Mark Thomas Andrade, Aidan Michael Moore, and Liliana Justa Moore, who made her days sparkle. Everyday with them was a special gift to her. She had a unprecedented amount of patience and an innate joy while working with children. She was a catechist at St. John Neumann Church in Santa Maria and she enjoyed teaching the word of the Lord. Elaine was a woman who succeeded in life despite being constantly challenged. She is survived by her mother Socorro A. Martinez of Guadalupe and her four sisters Catherine (Andy) Rodriguez of Fresno, CA, Elizabeth (Manuel) Soltero, Diane ( Ruben) Lopez, all of Santa Maria and Joanne Salut, and her only brother Johnny (Stella) Martinez of Guadalupe, CA. She will be missed by her large Melena family. Her gracious presence will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews and her many godchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Mark T. Melena, her father John G. Martinez, brother in law Richard Salut and her father in law Santos Melena. |
