Lewis died as a result of injuries sustained from and accident at band practice on August 16 1983. He fell under the wheels of the moving band truck.
He was given a beautiful funeral by his familiy, church friends and his band family. It's the only funeral that had the marching band stand at attention during the ceremonies in uniform.
