Favorite School Memory | High School was such a horrible place, and such a bad time in my life because of family issues, (both parents dying when i was a freshman, and my step father was abusive) I don't have many good memories of that time, I guess the only good times I had was when I was in the Band, Marching, Orchestra, or just practicing in the band room, it was my escape from reality. Although, I just remembered, my absolute favorite memory of being at Richland High School, was my Junior Prom, not because I was into that sort of thing, I went mainly because it was an opportunity to get away from my Step-Dad. That night, I did the unthinkable, I did what i thought would be impossible, I didn't think i had it in me to do it. I asked Marissa Mayberry to dance with me... She turned me down, I was not really surprised, but i was still crushed, I had a crush on her for as long as I knew her, and I think she knew it, there was no way anyone could not know it, I was so obvious. Like i said, I was not surprised, so I went back to the table and sat with Derrick Richards and just hung out. A few songs later, Marissa came back and asked me to dance, my jaw dropped, I was so surprised that for a second I hesitated because I wasn't sure i had heard her right. I ended up gathering my wits and getting up and following her to the dance floor, I still remember the song, Push - Matchbox 20. That is probably the best moment in high school for me... Marissa if you read this, thank you for that dance. T...(read more) |
About Me | My Life Since High School Current mood: drained (keep in mind this is extremely condensed) Ok, so where do I start... I went through some rough shit after I left Richland, was homeless for a bit, stayed with whatever friends would let me stay for a while, dropped out of high school my senior year, got heavy into drugs, almost got engaged, had a moment of sober enlightenment and realized that she was fucking psycho, the drugs were fucking up my life, and I was going nowhere fast. So I got off my ass, went back and finished high school the next year, graduated, bummed around for about 6 months, then joined the Marine Corps. I graduated Boot Camp on February 2nd, 2001, then started off as a 6531 Aviation Ordnance Technician, (loaded 20mm armor piercing high explosive incendiary rounds, 2.75" and 5" rockets, hellfire and TOW missiles, countermeasures, various other explosives and pyrotechnics, troubleshot and fixed avionics weapons systems etc.) on AH/1W Cobra Helicopters for my first 5 years, deployed once to Iraq, got shot at a lot (two near death experiences with mortars and rocket fire) and almost killed a buddy and myself by driving through an area littered with leftover cluster bomb fragments (didn't know they were there, it was on base where people walk all the time for Pete's sake!). I got tired of playing with explosives, figured it was time to get into something that would actually help me out later, and was not quite so dangerous. So my next 3 yrs (so far) have been spent as a 2651 Special Intelligence Systems Administrator. (basically I'm a Network Administrator on Top Secret military networks I carry a 9mm w/me wherever I go, and keep phosphorus grenades in the safe next to my desk to burn everything in case of emergency), I'm currently deployed to Iraq (again) and have been here for 11 months, I should be headed back to San Diego, CA at the end of the month. It's actually a pretty cool gig, I'm applying for an internship this year (the Marine Corps pays for it) going to the National Security Agency, and learn how to be a "Network Defense / Exploitation Specialist" for the Government. (little more complicated than that, but that's a nutshell explanation.) I met my wife (Jennifer) at a Christmas party in 2002, through mutual friends, and started dating the following January. We got married on April 1st 2006 (no April fools jokes), I never imagined that i would find the one i would be happy with for the rest of my life, so soon. That's the short version of what's happened since high school...(read more) |
