About Event

Casual attire. If you plan to attend the regular Alumni Association dinner, that is more formal than ours. We plan on a few things like sitting down by the river, playing all our old tunes, a picnic lunch..... maybe a walk through the village, a visit to the school to pay respects to our deceased classmates at Sibyl's tree.......more to come, this is just the beginning.

Hello there, CLASSMATES! The Class of ’59 reunion committee has come up with some suggestions for our next get-together. We had a lot of complaints about the food at Foster’s & the terrible food/crowding at Cappucino’s for the alumni dinner in ‘09. At this point in time we would just like to run some things by each of you so you can let us know if you are AT ALL interested in coming in 2014. You don’t have to commit at this point, just let us know what your feelings are today and if you would come if your family's schedule permits.
We have decided to switch things up this year and move our reunion to mid-October. The leaves should be in full color then and maybe we who have not seen crimson leaves in a lot of years will be in for a treat. There seems to be so much going on in June that people can’t get away, so we thought a fall gathering might be nice. Please reply to this suggestion with your thoughts. The dates will be October 17th through the 19th.

Research is being done on the re-built “The Rhinecliff” (Hotel) & we think that we may have a breakfast, a lunch &/or a dinner there. We’ll know more later on. Here is a link to the Hotel: http://www.therhinecliff.com/. You can look up room and meal prices there. (rooms are pricey and booked solid over a year in advance) We think that a Friday evening casual (dress shirt/tie optional) dinner there would start us off well….then also or maybe a brunch or breakfast Saturday morning and possibly having lunch, too. (they do bag lunches and I have another bag lunch person in the wings too). All of you Dock Rats can cruise the old streets of the ‘Cliff. We may break up into groups, take pictures, toss a few footballs, go walk down by the river, even bring one of those bag lunches & sit on the old ferry slip or the RR tracks and exchange photos, (bring yours to have copied and exchanged) or sip drinks and eat lunch in the Hotel, bring your lunch down to the dock or just hang out and gab. No specific plan, we all can do our own thing.....either go sit on the Hotel's veranda or just fuel the gathering at the river. "We will gather at the River".....heard that one before? All of this is optional, we just want to see if you like our ideas. We’ll see what prices they come up with for us and compare them to the same setup at the Delamater & others for the rooms there.

We may still take a 1 ½ hour cruise out of Kingston on the “Rip Van Winkle”. (or for our Saturday night event.) Jane Crowley asked about that in “09 and wanted so much to do it. They have bar food & drinks & we can get to see our shores again for a while. We will ask if there is one around 11:30 or at the supper hour. Are you in on that?

It goes without mention that we must go to the school again & add the names of our members who have left this earth since June 2009. That would be Ed Williams, Jane Crowley, Dan Buckley, Jack Forbes, Jill Merryweather, Nancy Espie (Lanaia Light) & Roger Van Etten. A lot of us think that time was the ‘defining moment’ of our gathering on that entire weekend….as we tied white ribbons on the tree with our deceased classmate’s names on them & prayed. That is no ordinary Maple tree either, it’s the very tree we planted as young students in memory of our first classmate who passed on……..Sybil Cole.

We will leave Saturday night open at this point in time…… I can get back to you when we have a list of things to do. Some of you may have family/friends plans, too.

The attached photos are from our 50th reunion in June, 2009….L to R on the right side are Cookie, Larry, John and Jim Loomis. Some stayed at the Delamater Inn & had privy to the Hospitality Room where we got together over memorabilia and photos. We just sat around & caught up on each other…..what fun.

So, if you even THINK you may attend, please either call, e-mail or write to Janet (Shinn) Post at 4285 Lockin Circle- Macon Estates- Powhatan, VA 23139-5600. You can call my cell 518-339-5651 or e-mail me at OscarAndFelix@verizon.net. Thank you and we certainly hope you don’t miss this reunion, the last was an absolute
BLA ST!!

PS: We can allow about 2-3 weeks for you to let us know before we finalize the date. We will also send out sign-up sheets for dinner, brunch, etc. at a later time.

Reunion Committee: Larry, John, Ellen, Stu, Roxy, Cookie and Janet.

Please reply to Janet @ OscarAndFelix@verizon.net or 518-339-5651
